Yogic Physiology, Psychology
& Chakras in depth
From a yogic point of view, the body/energy/mind complex is divided into five parts known as koshas; these are like sheaths layered over each other.
The grossest is the physical body, followed by the energy body, then the mental body, the wisdom body, and finally the bliss body. Just as the physical body consists of bones, organs, blood vessels, and more, our energy body comprises energy channels that allow prana (life force) to flow throughout the body. These channels are known as nadis, and their conjunction points are called chakras. We focus on the seven most essential chakras, each acting as a psychic center or energy vortex embodying a specific archetypal quality.
A chakra is nonphysical, existing in the subtler bodies; nevertheless, all chakras function as control centers that facilitate the exchange of energy between the subtler bodies and the physical body. This interaction directly influences the mind-body connection, shaping various aspects of personality. It also impacts the wisdom body, which governs higher intellect and intuition, and the bliss body, which can evoke transcendental bliss and cosmic love. The quality of energy flowing within our bodies can be categorized into three main groups, known as gunas.
In fact, the three gunas are the fundamental qualities of nature itself, and everything in the universe can be assigned to one of them: tamas (inertia), rajas (activity), and sattva (purity). The interplay of these energy qualities passing through the chakras gives rise to specific emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and more. This shapes a person’s basic nature, character, and even physical health.
Through yogic practices, you can consciously redirect that energy into desired areas of your own being to enhance any aspect of your life.
What is this Course about?
During this course, you will explore yogic physiology and psychology in depth.
Unfortunately, there is a great misconception about this topic, especially regarding the chakras. In this course, you will understand what chakras really are, based on the traditional tantric point of view. You will learn how to apply that knowledge in your yogic and tantric practice. You will also delve into the history of the chakras and how modern Western ideas have modified these teachings to the extent that most contemporary chakra teachings bear little resemblance to the original concepts.

Another similarity that many shamanic cultures share is that, in the process of becoming a shaman, the adept will often undergo a type of sacrificial practice. This may include isolation, deprivation of sleep, speech, food, or drink; pilgrimage to a sacred place; celibacy; or the intake of particular plants. All these practices have one thing in common: to remove the practitioner from their physical and usual reality, which, when done correctly, brings about a spiritual awakening.
These shamanic elements complement yogic traditions by emphasizing energy redirection and inner transformation, which we will draw upon in practical exercises throughout the course.
